Gluten Free Black Bean Brownies Featured on The Today Show with Joy Bauer!

I've had quite the adventure the past few days! I was chosen and flown up to New York City to be on the Today Show with Joy Bauer this past Thursday morning (February 6th). Read on for the story, pictures, video link, and recipe!

NBC's Today Show had a Too Good To Be Healthy contest, and my recipe for my Gluten Free Black Bean Brownies was chosen as one of their top three finalists! NBC flew me up to New York City to be on the show-- and let me tell you, they treated me very well! They set up a car service to pick me up and take me back to the airport and put me up at Club Quarters, which is across the street from Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center

I had such a great time! I was there just long enough to see a couple of old college friends, see Cinderella on Broadway (Fran Drescher from The Nanny and Carly Rae Jepson just started working with the show!), and wander around the city to take a bunch of random and fun pictures.

Most people have no idea what goes on behind the scenes at a studio-- there are so many people working on each detail to make everything run smoothly. However, every once in a while, things don't go quite as planned. Watch the segment and then read on...

Here's the link to the segment and recipe:

Yes, Joy Bauer called me by the wrong name! Haha! And now, a decent percentage of my friends are calling me "Sue". Does anyone else now have Whitney Houston's My Name Is Not Susan running through their head???

So, to finish my thought about behind the scenes at a studio...
Joy Bauer almost didn't make it that morning, because she got caught behind a car accident on her way into the city. Joy likes to show up early to get to know the people she is working with for the segment, but clearly that didn't happen this time. She finally got there-- less than five minutes before we went on the air! Then, somehow the set up crew got the order of our podiums mixed up (I was supposed to go last). And to top it off, one of the gals who was a fellow finalist got so nervous that she buckled at the knees and passed out during the ten second count down to airing! Talk about chaotic! All of these things added up to poor Joy mixing me up with the other finalist. She felt so bad that apologized over and over after the segment was over.

I truly had a blast, and love that I got the chance to have such a wonderful experience! Here are a few photos from the segment and studio:

Me with the "real" Sue!

A huge thank you to everyone who watched, have sent me messages of encouragement, and have cheered me on! I hope you all will enjoy the video and the recipe!
