Copycat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that taste even better than the original!
Mmmmmm... Don't these look fantastic?! I recently got some new chocolate molds from Wine and Cake Hobbies right after Easter, and was inspired to make these.
I used to make chocolates all of the time with my mom when I was growing up. We made them for teacher's gifts, swim meets, t-ball and softball games... You name the occasion, we made them for it! Reese's have always been one of my top favorite sweets, as was my mom's. So, it was pretty much a no brainer to attempt to copy the amazing taste when I found these molds!
I did some research and it seems that everyone says the ones they make taste great, but they don't quite taste like the original and the texture of the peanut butter filling wasn't "gritty" enough. There were some interesting ideas that people came up with (like adding crushed graham crackers), but they weren't what I would do (or what I ended up doing).
I changed a handful of the ingredients (all the recipes I found online were exactly the same) to what I thought would make it taste more like the original candy. It definitely paid off-- they taste exactly like the store bought ones, only fresher because they don't have the preservatives and haven't been sitting in the packaging and or warehouse for who knows how long!
These peanut butter cups couldn't last long enough. They were all gone before I knew it! I love that I can make them in so many shapes and sizes too-- perfect for any season! Oh, and did I mention that they're *gluten-free*?
